Thu, 05/29/2025

SCDAH is proud to announce that our map collection (P 900035) is now available to search on our catalog at https://scarchcat.rediscoverysoftware.com/mhome.aspx.  From the comfort of your home, you can now search our expansive collection that includes historic maps of towns, cities, districts, and counties of South Carolina and surrounding areas.  Maps showing boundary lines, proposed developments, census districts, and geological surveys are also available along with some of our more popular pieces like the timber type maps and the Mills Atlas.

Below is a guide for patrons on how to navigate this new feature. Our archivists in the research room are available for questions at (803) 896-6104 or (803) 896-6105.

On the front page of ArchCat there is now an Advanced Search link under Archives Catalog.

After clicking this link, you will be on the Advanced Search page.  Choose Item Level from the Archival Level dropdown arrow.  If you do not choose Item Level from this dropdown, the search will not bring up map series results.

Perform your search in the first box labeled Keyword.  This box with allow you to search for a map by title or by a keyword that may be in the summary.

Once you have your search terms, click the Search Archives button at the bottom of the page to perform the search.

You are looking for any results with the series number P 900035 at the Item level.  Below is an example of a search performed with the term Barnwell.

When searching, you can add AND, OR, NOT to your Keyword search to narrow the results.

Every map is entered at the item level and has a summary. This summary is fully searchable but is only viewable on the map’s individual page.
