J. Verne Smith Gallery Exhibit
Current Exhibit:
SCDAH’s current exhibit traces the nearly ninety-year history of the South Carolina Historical Marker Program. Established in 1936, South Carolina’s marker program is one of the oldest programs of its type in the United States and includes more than 2,000 officially state-certified markers found in every county of the state. The program has been overseen by SCDAH throughout its history and is today administered out of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Visit the SC Archives & History Center to learn more about how countless South Carolinians have used the marker program to illuminate the Palmetto State’s past through its historic places.
Thank you to the South Carolina Archives & History Foundation for supporting this exhibit.
