Sources for African American Genealogical Research
A Blog Post by Steve Tuttle
In 1996 our agency published the first edition of Sources for African American Genealogical Research at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. We are pleased to announce that a revised edition of this guide is now available on our website.
(Access the New Edition).
This guide contains information about how to begin genealogical research, tips on research strategies, describes pre and post emancipation records to consult, and shows scanned examples of primary documents.
We will be hosting a virtual public meeting on February 26 at 2 p.m. to discuss this guide and answer questions about African American genealogical research at the Archives. To register for this event please contact Donna Foster (dfoster@scdah.sc.gov) by February 24.
