A blog post by Tokisha Ruff, Accountant/Fiscal Analyst

My journey began in Winnsboro, South Carolina, where I spent my formative years, from birth until the age of seven. Our family then relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where I continued my education and spent the majority of my life. Eau Claire High School provided a strong foundation, followed by my pursuit of a Pharmacy Technician Certification at Midlands Technical College. This certification launched my career in pharmacy, where I spent 25 years contributing to patient care.

Over that time, I gained valuable experience in diverse settings, including Walmart Pharmacy, Scana Pharmacy, Lexington Medical Center Pharmacy, the University of South Carolina Student Health Center, and the Department of Mental Health Pharmacy. These experiences honed my skills and broadened my understanding of the pharmaceutical industry.

In 2022, I embraced a new challenge, seeking professional growth beyond pharmacy. I transitioned into the field of finance, accepting a position as a Fiscal Technician at the Crafts Farrow Post Office. This role proved to be instrumental in my financial development; I rapidly acquired expertise in finance, auditing, and funding transactions. My dedication and performance were recognized within nine months, culminating in my promotion to Accountant/Fiscal Analyst at Morris Village. This opportunity provided invaluable experience and further solidified my passion for financial management.

Currently, I'm thriving as an Accountant/Fiscal Analyst in the Budget and Finance Department at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. I am deeply engaged in the daily operations handling a wide range of responsibilities, including invoice processing, grant management, interdepartmental transfers, Reconciliation of sales accounts, revenue data and weekly bank reconciliations. This role continues to expand my financial expertise, and I find immense satisfaction in contributing to the successful management of the department's financial resources. I am consistently seeking new challenges and opportunities to further refine my skills and knowledge in the ever-evolving field of finance.
