South Carolina has a rich and long history with the Native American inhabitants of the state. The settlement of South Carolina brought European settlers into contact, and often conflict, with indigenous Native American peoples. Among the collections at the South Carolina Department of Archives and history are numerous records that document and illuminate South Carolina’s relationship with Native Americans.
