Take a Virtual Tour of the History Center

Entrance to the SC Archives and History Center

Welcome to the South Carolina Archives and History Center. This building on Parklane Road is the agency's fourth home. The agency was previously housed at the South Carolina State House, the World War Memorial Building at the corner of Pendleton and Sumter Streets, and the old State Archives building at the corner of Senate and Bull Streets.  The current building contains approximately 126,000 square feet of reference, research, education, programming, archival storage, and administrative space. Follow the links on the left to learn more about the Archives and History Center and its programs.

The Archives and History Center opened in May 1998.  Total construction budget was $20.5 million; a combination of public and private funds contributed to that amount. The firm of HOK, based in Greenville, SC was the architectural firm.

Throughout your tour of the building, you will see reference to distinctive South Carolina architecture and traditional materials.
