Sketches the background of South Carolina's judicial system prior to 1868 and lists the colonial, early state, and antebellum court records held by the Department. The records from these courts stretch back to journals from the early 1700s, and this publication lists the kinds of records available, general descriptions of the information contained in them and the time frame they cover.
