Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies
The mission of the Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies is to serve membership organizations by providing educational programs on history-related topics, to represent with a united voice the historical interests of our State to elected officials, to assist the Department of Archives and History and act as a liaison with member organizations, and to identify and recognize worthwhile projects that preserve, enhance, and promote South Carolina history. The Confederation also assists the Department of Archives and History in maintaining the Directory of South Carolina's Local History, Historic Preservation, and Cultural Organizations (PDF).
Palmetto Archives, Libraries, and Museums Council on Preservation (PALMCOP) exists to provide its membership with help in preserving their collections, so that these materials may be useful as long as possible. Any entity or individual with a paper or film collection of library, archival or museum materials or records - either public or private - is invited to join PALMCOP.
Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation
The Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation is dedicated to preserving and protecting the irreplaceable architectural heritage of South Carolina.
South Carolina African American Heritage Commission
The South Carolina African American Heritage Commission identifies and promotes the preservation of historic sites, structures, buildings, and culture of the African American experience in South Carolina and assists and enhances the efforts of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. The 15-member commission includes representatives from all regions of the state.
South Carolina Archival Association (SCAA)
The South Carolina Archival Association is a statewide association of individuals interested in the management of, preservation of, and access to South Carolina's historical records.
South Carolina Archives and History Foundation
The South Carolina Archives and History Foundation supports the efforts of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.
South Carolina Civil War Sesquicentennial Advisory Board
Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in South Carolina. Our mission is to coordinate, facilitate and promote activities to commemorate the significance of the state’s participation in and contributions to the American Civil War.
South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology (SCIAA)
The South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology was established in 1963 as a University of South Carolina research institute and a State cultural resource management agency. As the latter, it serves as the main State agency concerned with South Carolina's Prehistoric and Historic Archaeology, and its discovery, study, revelation, and official safekeeping at a curatorial facility.
South Carolina Public Records Association (SCPRA)
The South Carolina Public Records Association was organized as a means to provide a network of people for the advancement and improvement of records and information management in the public sector.
State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB)
The South Carolina SHRAB has been serving the public since 1975 by advising and supporting efforts to identify, preserve, and expand access to South Carolina’s documentary heritage.
South Carolina Historical Association (SCHA)
The South Carolina Historical Association was founded in 1931 by persons teaching, writing, and studying history in South Carolina. Since that time, it has held an annual meeting for the presentation of papers on a wide variety of historical fields. Although its geographical base is the state of South Carolina, the organization exists to enhance the teaching and study of all areas of history.
